Projects Prof. Irwin Collier, Ph.D.

Origins of the Graduate Economics Canon in the United States: The Economics Departments of Columbia, Chicago and Harvard during the First Half of the 20th Century.

The primary purpose of the project, supported by the Institute for New Economic Thinking, is to explore and document the development of graduate economics training in leading centers of doctoral education in the United States that served as the intellectual foundation for the remarkable technical advances in economic analysis that characterized the middle third of the twentieth century. It also seeks to contribute to a renaissance of appreciation of the history of economic thought in graduate economic education.
