Using the library
Borrowing privileges

Students of universities or colleges based in Berlin or Brandenburg
- Residents of Berlin or Brandenburg (minimum age: 16)
- Corporate bodies based in Berlin or Brandenburg
There is no service or registration fee.
The reading rooms may be used without borrowing privileges.
Loan period
- Books from the open stacks: 4 weeks (renewable for up to 20 weeks)
- DVDs and video tapes: 1 week
- Materials from the reserve collection: overnight or over the weekend (during semester break: 1 week)
Most holdings are available for inter-library loan.
Excluded from circulation
- Periodicals (call numbers beginning with V)
- Reference collection (call numbers beginning with X)
- Rare or historical materials (call numbers beginning with Z)
- Audio recordings
- Slides
- Microforms (inter-library loan possible)

Every Wednesday during the lecture period at 2:00 pm or by arrangement (at least 3 participants)
The library offers

Reading rooms with 70 desks including 20 with internet computers
- Scanners and viewers for microforms
- Copying and printing with the Alpha card (available in the library)
Cost: 0,05 € per page - Wireless LAN for members of Freie Universität
- Screening room for DVDs, videos and audio recordings
