The theme of this semester's lecture series is money: money and its immense—and immensely varying—significance in different North American historical, social, cultural, institutional, political, and economic contexts. Lecture topics will include subjects such as the significance of money in international cultural relations, the rise and fall of the gold standard, income inequality, changing regimes of accumulation, and the role of money in cultural production.
