• Seit 1971 Professor für Literatur Nordamerikas,
• Gastprofessor und visiting scholar an Universitäten in den USA, Kanada, der Karibik und Europa,
• Beauftragter des Kennedy-Instituts für europäische Hochschulkooperation,
• Mitglied des Vorstands der Gesellschaft für Karibikforschung (SOCARE).
