Alexandra Deem awarded as well with the Ernst-Fraenkel-Prize

News from May 06, 2026

We are very proud to announce that Alexandra Deem, an alumna of the Graduate School of North American Studies, has not only been awarded with the Ernst-Reuter-Preis for her dissertation "The Future Is (Anti)Feminist: An Ethnography of the Trad Revolution on Social Media", in December 2025, but also with the Ernst Fraenkel Dissertation Prize of the Foundation for Humanity and Tolerance.

This prize, worth €5,000, is rooted in the scholarly and democratic legacy of Ernst Fraenkel, whose work
has been central to the analysis of democratic orders, their normative foundations, and their vulnerabilities. It honors dissertations that combine scholarly excellence with pronounced societal relevance and that illuminate the tensions and fault lines of modern democracy.

The award ceremony took place together with the Inaugural Ernst-Fraenkel lecture, this year with a lecture by Brook Thomas (University of California, Irvine) on April, 29.
