The Department of Politics focuses on key political issues in North American societies (especially the United States), as well as on North American political theory. In teaching, it currently concentrates on domestic politics, comparative courses, and foreign and security policy.

Job description:
The position is based in the field of U.S. foreign and security policy under Prof. Dr. Lora Anne Viola.

Main tasks:
Supporting Prof. Dr. Viola in teaching and research on U.S. foreign policy, international organizations, and transatlantic relations, for example through selecting and compiling reading lists, assisting with preliminary book selection, proofreading, and seminar preparation.

Supportive tasks:
Conducting research, data analysis, preparing publications, and assisting with the organization of the “Foreign Policy Speaker Series.”

The position is characterized by a high level of involvement in research and teaching, a significant degree of personal responsibility, and flexibility in working methods. 

Desirable:

• Students of North American Studies or Political Science, preferably with a specialization in International Relations, advanced undergraduate students (e.g. completion of the orientation module) or in a master’s program

• Strong academic performance in the field of US foreign policy desirable

• Fluent in English and German (C1 level)

• Proficiency in common Office applications (IT skills)

• Interest in academic research

• Knowledge of North American foreign policy
