The Politics of Music: The Twentieth Century Classical Music World in the United States, Kira Alvarez, Tuesdays, 14:00-16:00

Kira Alvarez works at the intersection of music, religion, and the history of science. Her research has examined musical diplomacy in the twentieth century, particularly within transatlantic contexts. Her current project traces the role of scientific knowledge within legal frameworks. She has taught, presented, and published her research in the United States and Europe. Kira’s research has been supported by grants from institutions including Stanford University and the German Research Foundation (DFG).  

She received her early education at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA), and later studied at Swarthmore College, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Stanford University, and Freie Universität Berlin.
