"Als Politikwissenschaftler arbeite ich in einer vergleichenden Perspektive mit Schwerpunkt Nordamerika. Ich wurde im Jahr 2002 an der Goethe.Universität Frankfurt/Main promoviert und bin dann im Jahr 2010 an das John-F.-Kennedy-Institute für Nordamerika Studien der FU Berlin gewechselt. Seit 2012 bin ich dort Professor für Politikwissenschaft mit dem Schwerpunkt Politische Systeme in Nordamerika. Ich habe zahlreiche Publikationen zu den Themenbereichen Ungleichheit, Beziehung zwischen Staat und Markt, Sozial- und Gesundheitspolitik und Krisenphänomene entwickelter Demokratien in einer transatlantischen Perspektive.

 

Zu meinen momentanen Forschungsinteressen zählen insbesondere das Thema der Einkommens- und Wohlstandsungleichheit in entwickelten Demokratien und die Art und das Ausmass, wie entwickelte Wohlfahrtsregime ökonomische Ressourcen durch die Sozial- und Steuersysteme umverteilen. Kürzlich habe ich zusammen mit Boris Vormann ein Buch im Campus Verlag mit dem Titel: "Das Versprechen der Gleichheit: Legitimität und die Grenzen der Demokratie“ veröffentlicht

 

Ich kommentiere regelmässig in den USA politische Themen zu den politischen Systemen in Nordamerika, Dazu gehören insbesondere: Der Zustand der Demokratie in den USA, die politischen Systemen in Nordamerika, Präsident und Kongress, das System der Gewaltenteilung und -verschränkung, Politische Parteien und Polarisierung, Wahlen in den USA."

Writing a Bachelor or Master thesis

 If you plan to write your Bachelor or Master thesis under my supervision there are a few thinks that I expect from you:

  1. You should have taken at least the following module at the JFKI (just applicable for students of our North American Study  Programs):       

    Bachelor: Orientierungsmodul Politik

    Master: Modul A: Theories and Methods
  2.   You should have taken at least one of my classes/courses (graded)
  3.   You have to hand in an Exposé for your Bachelor of Master thesis that outlines the main research question, the main argument, the research design (including methods and an outlook on the material that you will use/analyze and the structure of your thesis) - altogether approx. 2 pages. Please make sure that the topic fits into my research expertise.  
  4. We will talk about your Exposé in my office hours (real or virtual) before I will sign any kind of registration documents.
  5. Please bring all the paperwork (filled-out) to the office hours, so that I have just to sign it.
