Labor supply of immigrants
As part of the DFG research group "Labor market transformation: Labor Scarcity, Skill Mismatch, and Policy", Max Steinhardt, together with Sulin Sardoschau (Juniorprofessor Economics, Migration Economics, HU Berlin), is working on a research project on the labour supply of immigrants. The project examines how immigration and integration policies can contribute to securing a sustainable labour supply. In the first part, a historical natural experiment - the German Guest Worker Programme - is used to analyse how the presence of foreign workers has influenced economic stability and resilience during times of crisis. The second part of the project focuses on the labour force participation of immigrants and their descendants today. Using new survey data, the influence of gender-specific norms on labour market integration will be examined in particular. Peter Mohr (Chair of Behavioural Economics, in particular Neuroeconomics) is an affiliated member of the project.
