Course Credits and Conversion of Courses
Credit Points for Courses from Other Universities
Please complete the form Antrag auf Anerkennung von Studienleistungen if you want to receive credit points for your JFKI MA degree that were obtained at universities other than Freie Universität Berlin (e.g. during your studies abroad or earlier studies at a different university). You will find a template on how to complete the form here.
In addition to the (i) completed digital form (please note that handwritten forms cannot be processed) please enclose (ii) a scan of the transcript by the foreign/German university as well as (iii) a recent PDF-version of your Campus Management transcript before sending the files to the attention of email@example.com via email. Please send applications for accreditations/conversions in culture directly to firstname.lastname@example.org and in sociology and ABV directly to email@example.com.
The process starting with the submission of the form to the final changes in Campus Management has now been fully digitized and includes the following steps:
A member of the department in which you seek credit signs the form to confirm that the content of the courses for which students earned credits at another institution can be considered equivalent to courses offered at the JFKI (“Testat”). Therefore, it is necessary to submit additional documents such as transcripts and syllabi. Afterwards, all documents are signed by the Examination Committee, either in the person of Prof. Dr. Sebastian Jobs or Prof. Lora Anne Viola, PhD. Afterwards, all documents are forwarded to the Office of Examination and Auditing (Prüfungsbüro) at the Fachbereich Politik- und Sozialwissenschaften.
Please allow for up to four weeks upon the submission of your form(s) until the changes in Campus Management have been made.
Conversion of Courses
It is possible to convert credits for classes taken at the Kennedy Institute (if you wish to obtain credit for a seminar in a different department, or if you want to transfer a seminar from Module A to Module B or C, etc.). Please use (i) the form for accredidation of courses and add (ii) additional documents (such as a "Papierschein" or a recent PDF-version of your Campus Management transcript) before submitting all documents to firstname.lastname@example.org via email. A template on how to complete the form can be found here. The process starting with the submission of the form to the final changes in Campus Management has now been fully digitized and is identical with the one outlined above.
Please allow for up to 3 weeks upon the submission of your form(s) until the changes in Campus Management have been made.
Conversion of Courses
In some cases, it is possible to convert classes taken at the Kennedy Institute to receive credit for them in a module different from the one it has originally been offered in (for example, if you wish to obtain credit for a seminar in a different department, or if you want to transfer a seminar from Module A to Module B or C, etc.). Please use the same form as the one for accredidation of courses from other universities. As in the case described above, the form has to be signed by a member of the department first ("Testat"), and afterwards by Prof. Dr. Sebastian Jobs.If you need assistance with filling out the form or have any other remaining questions, please consult the student advisor.
